The analogy of adding/subtractive/multiplying numbers is kinda terrible because there are sounds that additive synthesis can make that neither subtractive nor FM synthesis can make and there are sounds that FM synthesis can make that neither additive nor subtractive synthesis can make. These harmonics can then be manipulated individually giving the user way more control over the exact shape and texture of the sound than can be achieved by either subtractive or FM synthesis. You can see this in action if you just google "saw wave harmonics." This done, in Razor at least, using stacks of sine waves, which when combined create the harmonics of the note. Additive synthesis is a unique, and often rare form of synthesis where a user theoretically has control over every harmonic in a sound. The description of additive synthesis here is incredibly insufficient and does no justice to the it's potential power.
